Individually Together, the latest exhibition in the series of exhibitions by Fanshawe Fine Arts students, presents the work of Carleana De Wilde, Claudia Force and Tyler Pfaffinger.
Carleana De Wilde’s series Material in Motion consists of sculptures formed by exploring ways to work with materials; such as clay, fibre, and wood. Conceptual Art, based on intuitiveness, rather than theoretical or illustrative theories, allows the artist to explore the medium without boundaries. In a series of colour photographs titled Social Anxiety, Claudia Force depicts the loneliness of our contemporary lifestyle as experienced by a teenage college student. The reclining figures in her photographs convey the feelings of being lost, hurt and isolated. Tyler Pfaffinger’s work consists of acrylic paintings and graphite drawings. Using rough and exaggerated brushstrokes, and muddy palettes and dark colours, these figurative portrait paintings are inspired by the raw, unfiltered and non-staged human emotion present in candid photography. By focusing on aspects that might be viewed as boring, unattractive, or simply “not good enough”, the artist aims to capture these subjects as real and relatable “flawed” human beings.
