Matrix Evolution explores the idea of process through calculative and repetitive practice as a route to aesthetic and conceptual artwork. The show brings together two artists, Evea Trotter and Mereen Mukkadan, one working with textile and the other working with paint to create shifting forms that transform through experimentation and exploration of the media.
Trotter works with the idea of tension, utilizing yarn to break the conventional notions of what the medium is typically used for, stretching and pulling it to its limits. Mukkadan explores the fluidity of paint by allowing the medium to establish the nature of the flow, creating organic patterns while the artist controls the orientation of the paint, hence both working in harmony.
As the artwork of both the artists pushes and pulls in an oppositional process of chaos, the viewer is left with the hymn of an almost surrealistic space.
Matrix Evolution is part of the spring 2019 series of exhibitions by Fanshawe 3rd year Fine Art students.
