With the proliferation of global issues in the world right now, it can be easy to forget what is going on in our own neighbourhoods. In the exhibition ‘Our Home’, Emilee DeGroot and Myia Pevec highlight global and local issues, including pollution, resource exploitation, business closures and job loss in London and surrounding areas in Southern Ontario.
Growing up in Sarnia (home to over fifty petrochemical plants), Pevec pulls inspiration from numerous personal conversations and experiences. She uses natural materials, including homemade dyes and secondhand fabrics to explore topics of consumption and pollution in mixed media installations. Meanwhile, DeGroot touches on topics of job loss and human intervention pulling inspiration from the history and state of abandoned buildings that are unfamiliar to many. She uses monotype and silkscreen prints to direct attention back to these local ruins.
‘Our Home’ invites you to start a conversation about issues in your neighbourhood and how they connect to broader global concerns.
This exhibition will not be open to the public.
