A blank page, an empty white space – the possibilities are endless. First days of the creative process are equal parts: exciting, curious, daunting, and terrifying! It begins humbly, with pencil to page trying to capture ideas in their infancy. What materials to choose? What subject? What processes? What inspires? What is important? And let’s not forget “The Doubt” – is it good enough? Am I ready?

After two years of preparation and development in assignment-based studio courses, these third-year students at Fanshawe Fine Art embark on their final year of self-directed projects. This exhibition invites the public into these normally private moments of reflection, experimentation, brainstorming and collecting. They will return to Satellite Project Space for self-curated exhibitions next term when their work is matured. Will the future artwork they create be reflected in the ideas germinating now, or will there be a dramatic turn in development? “The Doubt” creeps in as ideas and materials become suspect, something is going on here, Something Sketchy.
