In Sum and Substance, memories are stitched, sewed, sculpted, stuffed, painted, printed, and photographed to substantiate experiences of isolation within the body. Kira Hewey, Candy Lawton, and Megan Wilson are all familiar with alienation in a different way; growing up deaf and hard of hearing, living in a dissociative state with one’s own body, and through the inadequacies of translating thought to language. Personal histories are transformed into tactile, layered works which present multitudes between artist and memory.
Sum & Substance is part of the spring 2019 series of exhibitions by Fanshawe 3rd year Fine Art students.
SATELLiTE Project Space is a dynamic partnership between three significant London, Ontario, arts institutions: Fanshawe College, Museum London and Western University. The mandate of SATELLiTE is to provide a flexible space for new and temporary projects, collaborations, and experiments in the arts and culture.
