The Nature of Neglect is a multimedia and photographic group exhibition featuring artists Claire Kovacs, Reanne Phillips, and Deserae Lyons. These artists explore how identity, histories and physicality can be lost over time. Kovacs uses a collection of found photographs of unknown people and dated technology to create imaginary narratives and a retelling of history. History is further explored in Philips’ work exposing residential schooling and the impact it has on First Nations’ families today, as well as the ongoing issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. Lyons seeks out neglected architecture that has lost its function and employs print processes to heighten these buildings’ present decomposition. The nature of Neglect creates the opportunity to reevaluate and observe the often overlooked.

This exhibition is the first in the 2020 spring series of exhibitions by Fanshawe College third-year fine art students.
